Welcome!

I would love to do some snap conversions for you!

CLOTH DIAPERS

If your cloth diapers have worn out aplix/touchtape/velcro, or if you are tired of it sticking to everything in the wash or rubbing on baby, snaps are a great way to go. I can easily do pocket diaper conversions, ex: Bum Genius, Happy Heiny, Haute Pockets, BlueBerry, gDiapers, Thirsties, or similar.

I can do hidden snaps too, but may not have exact matching thread choices (used for re-sewing the spot taken out to get the snaps in).

I do have matching thread for Bum Genius Moonbeam and Ribbit.

Snap colors I have available:
~white
~black
~bright blue
~spring green
~royal blue
~pastel green
~pastel blue
~ivory
~light tan
~sage gray
~deep red
~neon pink
~dark orange

Snap colors I have available to match BG colors:
~Moonbeam
~Twilight
~Ribbit
~Grasshopper
~Clementine
~Butternut
~Zinnia
~Blossom
~white

Pricing

~$3.50 per diaper for pocket diapers, most fitteds, and some AIOs.
Ex: Bum Genius 3.0s & 4.0s, Bum Genius AIO Small & Medium & Large.
OR
~$4.00 per diaper for diapers that require stitching to be removed to access the inside of the diaper to add hidden snaps, most AIOs.
Ex: Bum Genius One-Size Organic All-In-One, Bum Genius Elementals, GroVia, GroBaby.
OR for diapers that require edging to be removed and restitched.
Ex: Thirsties covers, Bummies covers.
~plus return shipping

For 20 or more diapers, I will discount by $0.50 per diaper.

Depending on the size of the order, I would estimate 2-3 days turn around time. For 10-15 diapers, it may be 3-7 days. For 15+ diapers, it may be a 4-8 days.
I do work full time, we recently had baby #2 in late January, and have a 2 year old, so life is generally pretty busy. If for some reason turn around time seems like it might take more than a week, I will contact you.

Rise Snaps

~I am also able to add rise snaps for you. $1.50 per diaper.

Shipping

For return shipping, I will do USPS First Class if possible, else Priority (all with delivery confirmation).

Return shipping:
1-3 dipes $4.00
4-5 dipes $6.00
6-10 dipes $8.00
11-15 dipes $11.00
16-30 dipes $15.00

Of course, local pickups and dropoffs don't have to worry about shipping! We live a little south of Brainerd, MN.

Snap Configuration

I will do the most common snap configuration of two rows of snaps on the front, plus two snaps on each tab. If you prefer a different configuration, just let me know! I certainly am flexible! I have had moms prefer one row of snaps with two on each tab, and another prefer two rows of snaps with three or four on each tab.

BIBS

I'd gladly convert your bibs to snaps too! =) I can replace the velcro with one or two snaps, or whatever you prefer.

1-10 bibs: $0.50 each bib
11+ bibs: $0.40 each bib

For bibs that require unstitching, removing the velcro, then re-stitching the trim back on, it is $1.50 for each bib.
For bibs that require unstitching, removing the velcro, adding a piece of fabric to replace the missing velcro, then re-stitching the trim back on, it is $2.00 for each bib.

The hook velcro will be removed. The loop velcro (softer, non sticky side) will not be removed if it seems to provide helpful durability to the fabric underneath the added snap.

For the bibs, if any stitching is involved, I will use whatever thread I have on hand that matches the best. This may or may not mean the seam is obviously noticable. The trim is very tricky to work with and the seams will not be as perfect or pretty as it was before.

Return shipping is the same as for the number of diapers, unless the actual shipping you paid to send it to me is less, then that amount is fine.

If you would like more feedback, I have a bunch on ebay under ssqueakert.

Please feel free to check out the posts showing examples of converted diapers and misc.

Thank you! =)

How It Works?

You send me your diapers or bibs to be converted.
I complete the conversions.
Then I mail it back to you. =)

You can send payment right away, after you ship them to me, or when they're completed and ready to be sent back. Whichever way works fine with me. =)

I do prefer cash or paypal, but will accept personal checks too.
For paypal please send as one payment, otherwise there is more in paypal fees.
For personal checks, I will wait for it to clear at the bank before shipping your items back. Also, if for some reason your check bounces, you need to pay the bank fees (and original price of course) before I will send your items back.

Why Snaps?

Everyone has different preferences. Some people swear by velcro closure diapers and hate snaps. Some people love snaps and hate velcro. Some people don't mind either way.

After almost four years of cloth diapering our son and two daughters, I've realized that I loathe velcro and love snaps! When we started, nearly all of our stash was velcro. Currently, we might have one or two rarely used velcro diapers, but it's mostly snaps.

Snaps do take a few extra seconds to put on the baby (which can be a big factor with a wiggly wiggly little one), but they just have less things to worry about overall.

  • Velcro tabs need to be folded back for laundry - and need to be folded back without being crooked (else they still snag and catch on things in the wash).

  • If baby is in just a diaper, the velcro edges can scratch clothes or skin.

  • The edges of the velcro can scratch baby and the corners can poke him.

  • The velcro keeps the front of the diaper a little stiffer. I'm not sure if this ever bothered our son or not, but sometimes it just looked like his tummy couldn't have been very comfy when leaning over.

  • Velcro can be too easy (and apparently fun) for toddlers to take off. It's much harder for a youngster to get the snaps open.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you see the holes from the thread after the velcro is removed?
Yes. You can see where the velcro was removed. After the diaper has been washed, these holes will fade some as the fabric shifts and fills them in. It depends on how long the velcro was used. If you are looking for the holes, you probably will find them, but it is not very noticable (it's hard to find for a few of ours).

Are the snaps hidden on the inside of the diaper?
Yes. For pocket diapers, the snaps are put on through the inside of the pocket and do not go through the inner suedecloth/fleece layer. For AIO diapers without pocket openings, topstitching is removed to allow access to the inside of the diaper, then re-stitched shut when complete.

Are the snaps reinforced?
Yes. Many of the diapers already have a second layer of PUL, suedecloth, or microfleece behind the velcro area. For example, Thirsties have a second layer of PUL; Bum Genius have a liner type fabric; some Happy Heiny's do not have a second layer. If the diaper does not have any extra layers behind the outer PUL and inner fabric, I will add a layer of PUL when I add the snaps.

Can you convert AIOs?

Yes, I can convert the AIOs too. For the AIOs that have a pocket opening (ex: BG sized), it's not really any different than the pocket ones. For the AIOs that are completely closed (ex: BG OS organics), I will take out some topstitching to access the inside of the diaper, add the snaps, then re-sew it back shut. For the ones I need to re-sew, I will use whatever closest matching thread I have on hand (or white if you prefer).
